The Dallas Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard got a special visit from youth all over the state when CAL PAL Day rolled into town. Over 500 teens and kids representing the various CAL PAL (California Police Activities League) centers from around California gathered in Oxnard to enjoy a fun filled day of BBQ and NFL football.
“Some of these groups have been on the road since five this morning to make it here on time,” said Greg Wilson, Executive Director of California Police Activities League. “There are approximately 18 different PAL programs that are being represented here,” he said.
PAL is a nonprofit organization founded over 35 years ago by a group of police officers. California PAL continues to serve youth from many backgrounds and locations throughout the state. There are small town PALs as well as those PALs in the heart of California's largest cities. PAL provides programs for all ages ranging from five to eighteen.
“Terrel Harrison from Oxnard PAL, along with city employees from Parks & Recreation, helped to coordinate all this and allowed us to get on the field with the players,” said Wilson.
The kids had the best seat in the house as they watched Dallas Cowboys quarter back Tony Romo practice his perfect spiral pass just a few feet away from them. After the team completed their workout session, it was time for autographs and pictures.
